I have been a practitioner of mindfulness both in my own life and psychotherapy practice long before the orientation was given a name. Over the years I have fashioned a therapeutic approach that interweaves western and eastern psychological concepts and spiritual practices. This has allowed my clients to heal elements of their personal history while at the same time developing methods to access present moment awarenesses. By so doing, new painful experiences are not added to our consciousness. This also means that meditation and related activities, too often used as a means of escape from emotional pain, do not lead to spiritual bypassing. A term used to identify the ego's primarily unconscious attempt to transcend unpleasant life experiences using spiritual practices. This movement of the ego interferes with the true effort necessary to address them and is thus ultimately unsuccessful.
Life is a moment to moment experience most contentedly lived when mind, body, emotions and Spirit are in harmonious expression. This is both the invitation and possibility my therapy offers you.
Whatever therapy may be, its unfolding occurs in conversation and consciousness is the container within which it happens. I have conversations with those who come to see me. Convention labels us. I am a ‘therapist’ you are a ‘client.’ In truth we are not separated in the way these labels would seem to define us. The illusion of separation discussed elsewhere in my writing is not real for me any longer. We are one coming together to discuss an aspect of the whole, you. I have no answers for you but I do have ways to help you discover your own. I am willing and able to guide you using whatever wisdom I have acquired over the years. Because I am not bound by the illusion of separation and recognize we are all aspects of the one heart, compassion and kindness are inherent in our conversations.
